The Construction in Indian Country (CIIC) program in the Del E. Webb School of Construction (DEWSC) at Arizona State University (ASU) is the only industry outreach program of its kind throughout Arizona and the Southwestern United States. Who We Are Established in 2001, its comprised of tribal and industry professionals in consultation with ASU's research, construction, and engineering professors. Our mission is to support construction management education to benefit American Indian and Indigenous communities as they increase their capacities to manage their own affairs while determining their own destinies. What We Aspire Our Vision is that all Indigenous communities shall have the technical capabilities and personnel to manage construction activities at industry-best standards. Embracing the Future While Honoring the Past CIIC believes in promoting quality construction and construction management to industry-best standards while acknowledging and honoring the reestablishment or maintenance of tribal specific construction practices and cultures. Growing Our Own Just as tribal members have always led their citizenry, so too must American Indian professionals provide leadership in addressing the dire construction needs in Indian Country. CIIC actively supports the recruitment and a sustained student enrollment of American Indians in the construction management fields. Access to Education and Knowlege The role of public educational institutions should be to serve all citizens including tribal communities. The annual CIIC golf tournament raises scholarship funds for the American Indian Construction Management Endowment at ASU. Once per year, CIIC hosts a national conference. We invite tribal legislative members, tribal administrators, industry workforce, architects, contractors, engineers and planners. At our conference, we present innovative ideas, create networking opportunities, and to practice our mission and vision.
