Since 100 years Schule Schloss Salem, Germany‘s largest and internationally best-known boarding school, has set itself high standards for building character. The children and adolescents who come to us from over 40 nations are offered a continuous variety of challenges: academically in either the German Abitur system or the International Baccalaureate programme; physically in sports and outdoor activities; and artistically in creative projects, in theater, music, and dance. Along with the knowledge and skills they acquire in all their pursuits, three pedagogical building blocks are of particular importance: the adventures provided with ageappropriate experiential pedagogy; learning situations that rely on the holistic interaction of mind, heart and hand; and long-term engagement in emergency aid or social service groups. Schule Schloss Salem employs over 250 staff members, half of whom are teachers; the other half employed in the areas of housekeeping, technical services and administration. As a state-recognised grammar school for grades 5 - 12, we offer places for up to 600 boarding students wishing to study for either the Abitur or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
