MapAble™ is a web based GIS application that we developed over the past two years based on more than 70 years urban planning and software development experience of our three partners. The aim with MapAble™ is simply to lower the entry barriers and costs of GIS and also to allow non-GIS professionals the benefit of spatial analysis and map visualization. In addition to these standard GIS functions we also introduced the ability to report and to collaborate with teams, partners and clients through MapAble™ irrespective of geographic location. At the end of the day, we would like to see MapAble™ on a equal footing and used on a day-to-day basis in the same way as the standard suite of office programs on each and every built environment specialist’s desk. The key benefits of MapAble™ web based GIS tool is the fact that it does not require high specialized skills levels, it is universally accessible through the web and comes packaged with about 500 national (South African, Kenya and expanding) datasets. With its multiuser interface it has several tools that allows users to work individually or collaborate in teams. This is not to say that it is not a very sophisticated tool but we believe that the uninitiated to GIS will immediate be able to use it while the seasoned GIS specialist can equally do high level and complicated mapping and visualization in a cooperative team environment using MapAble™.
