Living Lands
www.livinglands.comLiving Lands is a social enterprise with a focus on landscape rehabilitation in the Eastern Cape regions of the Baviaanskloof, Langkloof and in the Western Cape in the Berg-Breede Catchment As our name suggests, Living Lands embraces a holistic socio-ecological approach. Our aim is not only in enabling the rehabilitation of biodiversity, soil and water quality, but also in helping to initiate viable agricultural practices that create commercial and social sustainability. Simply put, it’s about re-establishing a landscape where people can live sustainably off effectively managed land. And to do that is a long game. It takes decades to restore a landscape. It’s a process, not a project. Which is why we live in, and work side-by-side with the communities in which we are active. This is our methodology. We collaborate and work collectively with all stakeholders, establishing and valuing trusted relationships. Building on this social capital, we can assist in changing practices. We don’t make impressive sounding claims of immediate returns. Instead, ours is a far-sighted approach, where we work to co-ordinate and amplify community effort in what is a dynamic process based on continuous learning. Our close community connection means we can adapt and adjust projects to solve common challenges long our common journey. Along this path, Living Lands is none-the-less committed to establishing meaningful, measurable and sustained impacts. And thanks to our decade-long experience and continuous on-the-ground presence, we have the necessary expertise and deep understanding to accomplish this and play a meaningful role in what is a critical global mission. And to put that simply, in the crucial task of rehabilitation… we are committed, we do things properly, and we get things done.
