Southpoint Community Christian Church
www.southpointccc.comTo win Downriver to Christ by making 3C Christians who are commited, connected, and contributing. The story of Southpoint Church begins with Brett Kays' desire in college to start a new "pre-denominational" church in a major city with a great number of unchurched people. After a 1991 meeting with a group of ministers in the metro Detroit area, a church-planting mission invited Brett to come to the Downriver area. Moving from Cincinnati at the beginning of 1992, Brett recruited volunteers to help invite residents via the phone, and to serve for a while in the new church. With only a core group of 6 adults, the church launched its first worship service in Woodhaven High School on Easter Sunday, April 19, with 257 attending. Six months later the church began to lease the Weiss Elementary School on a daily basis. The church moved into its own building on 8 acres on Fort Street in Trenton, at Vreeland Road, on the last Sunday of 2002. From the start, Southpoint has sought to reach out to the Downriver community and beyond by building a regional church to meet the various needs of numerous people. We're excited about our beginnings, but we believe it pales in comparison to what God has in store for our future.
