Citadel + Compagnie

www.colemanlemieux.com

Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie (CLC) was formed in 2000 to facilitate the creation, production and presentation of dance works by Co-Artistic Directors Bill Coleman and Laurence Lemieux. They formed CLC to bring to life a shared vision of dance that could transcend boundaries, and the company has now become known for "literally … taking dance to places where it has never been before" (Toronto Star). CLC works out of its home base, The Citadel, a dance rehearsal and theatre space they renovated and reopened in 2012 in Toronto's Regent Park neighbourhood. CLC presents its stage creations at the Citadel as well as in preeminent venues around the world. CLC also creates one-of-a-kind events that explore the connection between human and nature, working in unique urban and rural landscapes across Canada and beyond. In 2008, James Kudelka was named CLC's Resident Choreographer. This relationship has allowed Kudelka to revisit some of his greatest dances while facilitating daring new creations. It has made it possible for another generation of dancers and audiences to experience the work of a Canadian master choreographer. CLC seeks to put contemporary dance into contexts that stretch and challenge us as a society, and that reach people who may not otherwise experience this level of art.
