Pointe West Performances, Inc is a consortium of artists, which operates as a production company. The consortium collaborates to produce projects in dance, music, theatre, visual arts, film, improv (flash happenings), and independent choreography. World-view collaborations are a hallmark of PWP's work, meshing varied cultural expressions to encourage tolerance and a "second look" at the world around us. PWP engages cultural growth in the cities it serves through "up close and personal" community programming (thus building broader support of the arts and a diverse audience base). This engagement is a high priority in the activities of its professional dance company, Pointillism Jazz Consort, and its outreach mission, The Infinite Legacy Project. See descriptions below. Pointillism Jazz Consort's professional choreographic repertory is based in the American idiom of jazz with classical, ethnic, and theatrical influences. The artists of Pointillism gather from many parts of the world (Washington, DC; Austin, TX; London, UK; Atlanta, GA; Portland, OR; Pittsburgh, PA; Akron/Cleveland/Dayton, OH) to contribute "dots of pure color" to the creative process of the company. Pointillism links education to its professional performing (breaking through socio-economic barriers) through The Infinite Legacy Project, which serves children and community members of all ages. Infinite Legacy Project educational programming (developed during a 7-year pilot) links to the Akron After School Program and other community groups to provide scholarships to its school, The ILP at Westminster. Westminster Presbyterian Church of Akron hosts The ILP outreach mission, allowing AAS students meaningful exposure to the arts through scholarship participation in ILP Mini Companies and Conservatory. The ILP also serves communities through its Choreography Outreach Initiative (providing seasoned professionals for projects) in the Greater Metro Area of Washington DC & Akron/Cleveland OH.
