Mobirail is an alliance (association of companies) between KPN N.V. and Nokia Siemens Networks Nederland B.V. that has designed and built a safe and reliable (mobile) network for railways in the Netherlands on contract for ProRail. The network has been operational since July 1st, 2003 and Mobirail carries out all administrative and service activities. The network GSM for Railways (GSM-R), based on an international standard, contributes to safer, more efficient and customer-friendly public transportation. The contract between ProRail and Mobirail encompasses the Service Provider role along with service and network administration. In this capacity, Mobirail GSM-R develops services for communication on and about the railway (“railway market”).
