Since 1 January 2006, the LFI Tokyo has enjoyed accreditation as a licensed local private school (Tokyo kokusai furansu gakuen). The International French School in Tokyo is an establishment of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) within the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs which educates more than 320,000 students worldwide in 490 schools. AEFE provides pedagogical continuity worldwide, allowing easy transfers between AEFE schools for students. The International French School in Tokyo registers students from kindergarten through high school, with 55 different nationalities represented. Our school follows the French National Curriculum and prepares students for Brevet and French Baccalaureat. Our mission is to provide a high quality educational program within the framework of multilingual education. We help students to develop self-confidence, respect for others, curiosity and openness to different cultures. Most importantly, we strive to inspire a desire to learn. The LFI Tokyo currently accommodates nearly 1525 francophone pupils of French or other nationalities. Our 2 campus in Takinogawa house the primary school (with students beginning petite section at age three) and accommodates students through upper-secondary and terminale (age 18). Most courses are conducted in French, but foreign-language instruction (in Japanese, English, German, and Spanish) also constitutes an important part of the curriculum.
