Çayeli Bakır İşletmeleri A.Ş. (CBI) is owned by First Quantum Minerals Ltd. which is an established and rapidly growing mining and metals company currently operating seven mines and developing five projects worldwide. FQM's current operations are the Kansanshi copper-gold mine, the Guelb Moghrein copper-gold mine, the Las Cruces copper mine, the Kevitsa nickel-copper-PGE mine, the Pyhäsalmi copper-zinc mine, the Ravensthorpe nickel-cobalt mine, and the Çayeli copper-zinc mine. CBI owns and operates a 1.2Mtpa underground copper and zinc mine in Madenli, Çayeli in the Province of Rize on the eastern Black Sea coast. Access to the mine is via the airport of Trabzon, 100km to the west of Cayeli and from there 90 minutes flight time to Istanbul. Our operation at Madenli commenced in 1994 and is expected to continue for at least another 6 years with some potential for further exploration success. During the life of the operation, CBI has continuously looked for opportunities to enhance its reputation and performance through the application of leading international practice in all areas of its business. CBI is sensitive to the environment, respectful to the local people and one of the leading enterprises in terms of its technical infrastructure in the Turkish mining sector.
