HYSAWA (Hygiene, Sanitation and Water Supply) is a non-profit financing organization, registered under the Companies Act, 1994. Established in 2007, the organization primarily aims at mobilizing resources for and supporting capacity development of local governments and communities to empower them to manage decentralized WatSan services in Bangladesh. HYSAWA is devotedly making efforts to assist the government in reducing poverty through achieving water and sanitation-related Sustainable Development Goal set out by the United Nations through: ► Strengthening the capacity of Local Government Institutions (LGIs) to deliver water supply and sanitation services; ► Improving Hygiene behaviors in its areas of intervention; ► Expanding access to hygienic sanitation and safe drinking water; ► Informing policymakers of the lessons learnt from the projects. A governing board, comprised of representatives from ministries, LGIs, development partners and civil society, is responsible for setting HYSAWA's policies and providing strategic direction. The board is chaired by Secretary, Local Government Division (LGD), Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
