The mission of the Department of Mechanical Engineering is to graduate students with a sound basis for professional practice and a career in lifelong learning. We do this through classroom experiences, individual advising, undergraduate research opportunities and open-ended, hands-on experiences. Students master methods of solving challenging problems through learning: The fundamental principles of mechanical engineering and human factors How to discover new knowledge How to communicate these solutions to the technical and non-technical community, and How to think like scientists and engineers, developing opinions / designs and finding evidence to support them.
