The Equalizer - Education on top
en.the-equalizer.orgA sportive-educational initiative operating football teams in elementary, middle and high schools and communal centers nationwide. "The Equalizer" aims to create a more just society, based on football, education, respect and understanding, by raising the younger generation's awareness to learning, maintaining a sportive and healthy lifestyle, and preventing violence and racism. The project's goals are offering a sportive-social-educational framework for children in Israel's social periphery. Within the project's framework, football teams are created in elementary schools for 5th-10th graders (10-16 year olds). Every team meets twice a week with a professional certified coach for football trainings, and in addition stays in the school twice a week to partake in a tutoring program in which they receive assistance with their schoolwork and engage in informal educational activities on different social values. Every month the teams gather for a district tournament – a festive event that brings together children from different social, ethnic and religious backgrounds, an event they look forward to. In the 2021-2022 school year, the project's thirteen since its establishment, 5,500 children are participating in 350 teams, divided into 29 different regions nationwide, from Israel's northern region to its southern region, in cities such as Jerusalem, Tel Aviv- Jaffa, Beer Sheva, Rahat, Kiryat Shmona, Ramla, Lod, Haifa, Dimona, Afula, Karmiel, Sderot, Nazareth and more. Boys and girls, Jews, Arabs, Bedouins, mixed Jewish-Arab teams, migrant children and more, unite around the values of sport and tolerance. For more information: www.league.org.il/en
