Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding research to develop reliable and effective treatments for spinal cord injury. Every day, three people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following a traumatic injury to their spinal cord. Paralysis means more than not being able to walk – it also affects other vital functions such as bladder and bowel control, blood pressure, breathing. It affects simple every day tasks such as drinking, eating. It can devastate lives. “Research could help nerves regenerate. It could help me to use my fingers so I could hold a fork somehow and eat independently.” Spinal Research raises money to fund research into clinical treatments as well as vital basic science research. We fund projects across the UK, and internationally, developed by leading neuroscientists in the field. We are determined to see treatments successful in the lab translate to real healthcare environments where they can benefit people. We believe this can be brought about by collaboration and funding the best research.
