Greensboro Symphony Orchestra
www.greensborosymphony.orgThe roots of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra (GSO) extend back to the 1920’s when a group of musicians at Woman’s College (now UNCG) banded together under the direction of Henry Fuchs. After formally organizing as the "Greensboro Orchestra" in 1939, the Symphony gained considerable public support and began operating as an independent, critically acclaimed musical organization. In 2003, the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra (GSO) entered an exciting new era, welcoming Dmitry Sitkovetsky, world-renowned violinist and conductor, as its new Music Director. Russian-born Sitkovetsky is currently Principal Guest Conductor of the Russian State Symphony in Moscow and is Conductor Laureate of the Ulster Orchestra. As violin soloist, chamber musician, and conductor, Dmitry Sitkovetsky's compelling artistry has firmly established him as one of the foremost talents of his generation whose music making speaks eloquently to audiences throughout the world. Each year, the Symphony presents on a diverse array of public performances, including Masterworks, POPS and Chamber series, as well as a number of educational and outreach concerts. These educational programs, supported by the N.C. Arts Council and the Greensboro Symphony Guild, serve more than 50,000 students every season.
