Tamani Foundation is a unique social enterprise that operates a charitable school funded by a beach-front hotel in Matemwe Village, Zanzibar. The Foundation provides free, high quality education to the local population, and currently operates a thriving nursery and primary school, in addition to a strong adult education program. These combined initiatives provide young learners with strong academic foundations from an early age, therefore improving their ability to succeed in life and become valuable contributing members of our communities. The operations of the Foundation are directly funded by Tamani Villas, a beautiful boutique hotel situated on the Matemwe coastline. Tamani Villas provides an authentic Zanzibari experience for guests, who also have the unique opportunity to contribute back to the local community as all profits from their stay are directly channeled to the Foundation. We strongly uphold sustainable approaches in our operations, with an emphasis on financial self-sustainability and a long-term positive social impact on the local community. Tamani Foundation is working towards a fully self-sustaining financial model whereby we solely rely on our own business income to fund the charitable projects we run. In addition to the school, we ensure that the local population is directly benefiting from our presence by hiring all local Zanzibari staff, majority of whom are from Matemwe Village. Furthermore, the organization has invested in providing local development initiatives, particularly for women’s empowerment and health awareness.
