Zero Plastic Oceans (ZPO) is an NGO focusing on creating mechanisms and incentives to encourage environmental cleanings focused on Ocean Bound Plastic. In order to so and help the plastic value chain to stop oceans pollution caused by plastic leakage we created a certification program conceived as a tool to help the industry focus on removing OBP, precisely while ensuring the respect of social and ethical standards. The Ocean Bound Plastic Certification is a program set by Zero Plastic Oceans and audited by independent third parties (Certification Bodies). The program is composed of 2 subprograms, the OBP Recycling subprogram with 2 Standards (OBP Recycling Organization, OBP Collection Organization) and the OBP Neutrality subprogram with 2 Standards (OBP Neutralization Services Provider, OBP Plastic Producers & Users) to cover the complete value chain of OBP Recycling : collection, management and reuse until the final product and OBP Neutralization : collection, management and treatment and parallel footprint compensation. The combination of the 2 Suprograms (Recycling and Neutrality) is designed for organizations to be able to receive financing for collecting recyclable plastic but also for usually neglected plastics that have no commercial value.
