College Tribe
www.collegetribe.orgCollege Tribe’s mission is to cultivate character, scholarship and social competence of 3rd to 8th grade boys living in Washington DC. Our mission is completely dedicated to the service of youth development. Our organization was founded in 2007 by four African-American men who attended either high school or college together, rising from “at-risk” childhoods to achieve success. These men all had sons, which brought into sharp relief the difficulties of raising black youths. These men’s struggles and experiences thus served as the catalyst for creating College Tribe. College Tribe provides after-school STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) classes to low income neighbourhoods. We believe representation is a crucial part of youth development and our main program focus involves: Black men mentoring Black boys and creating STEM leaders. Our programs aim to support young Black men in developing success for life through three programs: 1. Life, college and career mentoring, 2. After-school STEM/Arts education and 3. Out of school time activities, STEM, Arts and Reading development
