I named Coreopsis Publications for the Florida state wildflower. I wanted a Florida-specific name for a fictional town. Many of the names were taken, e.g. Poinciana, etc. No one had named a town Coreopsis, so I created a fictitious town and named the publishing company Coreopsis. My intention is to make Coreopsis a composite Florida community. I was sick of detectives and lawyers getting the good roles and thought a female paramedic would be a good protagonist. Thus, the character Bonnie McConnell. Once I got into writing Psychic Redemption, Bonnie’s history as the child of a teenage runaway intrigued me. Once Julie’s spirit entered the picture, the story more or less wrote itself. Within the Wind is a follow-on to Bonnie’s life as a paramedic. The introduction of Hurricane Dirk and the description of the storm are based on my seventy years of living in many parts of Florida. My next novel follows Aggie Upton as she comes out of her coma and struggles to recover her life while her husband testifies against international gangs of which he was a member.
