Ejaosan Foundation — Girl Phenomenal
www.ejaosanfoundation.orgA non-profit organisation with a mandate to educate and empower empower girls and women. Girls make up a large population of uneducated children around the world. According to UNICEF, 40% of Nigerian children aged 6-11 do not attend primary school, most of whom are girls. And in spite of the recent increase of enrolment in schools, it is estimated that about 4.7 million children of primary school age are still not in school. Many children do not attend school because extra domestic labour is needed on the home front and to bring additional income into the family, and a lot of the pressure is on girls. Also, many families cannot afford the associated costs of sending their children to school such as the cost that comes with uniforms, transportation and educational materials. Culture, traditions and financial depravity also account for many out-of-school girls. For us, education is non-negotiable, and so is being equipped with a positive mind-set to become dignified and productive members of the society. Our goal is to social transformation and our approach is to empower as many girls and women within capacity.
