The Township is comprised of 3 main settlement areas – Cardinal, Spencerville, and Johnstown – in addition to several hamlets. Predominantly rural, with its industrial base focused along the waterfront in Cardinal and Johnstown, our main industries are Agriculture, Construction, Transportation and Warehousing, Utilities, and Manufacturing. The Township is currently home to GreenField Ethanol Inc., Casco Inc., and the Port of Johnstown. The Port is very active, receiving all of the road salt for Eastern Ontario, and its existing grain storage and elevators are also operational. The Port has recently undergone $35 million terminal upgrade project. Additionally, we are within close proximity to Highways 401 and 416, the Prescott-Ogdensburg International Bridge to the USA, and the St. Lawrence River, offering a variety of accessible transportation links to other markets. We have been focused on economic development in recent years, acting progressively, willing to take on risk in order to reap future rewards.
