Our History From import and ripening to fruit distribution, S.H. Pratt & Co (Bananas) Ltd has grown to become one of Europe’s leading fruit suppliers, but has never lost its family feel. This is our story. Sowing the Seeds Pratt’s began its development as an import, ripening and fruit distribution company with just one fruit, the banana. In 1947, our founder Robert ‘Bob’ Wells carved out a modest banana import and ripening enterprise from his family’s existing fruit and vegetable wholesale business. Then operating in premises in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, this small family enterprise would become the fruit import, ripening and fruit distribution business we know today. Pratt’s Today: Fruit import, ripening and fruit distribution Today, with Robert Wells at the helm, Pratt’s is one of Europe’s largest players in the areas of fruit import, ripening and fruit distribution with approximately 300 employees and a ripening capacity of around 3,900 pallets. Yet, even as the fruit distribution company of some of the UK’s leading retailers, we continue to be very much a family business with an ethos to match. We pride ourselves on maintaining this small business feel, all whilst being able to fulfil the needs of even the largest corporations. Our Commitments At Pratt’s, we’re dedicated to our customers, our growers and to the environment. As such, we comply with the most stringent of trade commitments including Fairtrade, BRC, ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management Systems) and are members of Sedex (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange). We also work by the Ethical Trade Initiative, meaning we’re subject to an annual voluntary audit.
