Global Girls Initiative
www.globalgi.orgGlobal Girls Initiative is a 501(c) non-profit organization mission to provide free menstrual hygiene products and education to students and youth in underserved communities to help improve their health, confidence, and self-esteem. Our goal is to END PERIOD POVERTY and remove the stigma associated with it through advocacy. The outcome is to have better school attendance in reaching their full potential, to enable girls to play more sports, and participate in after-school activities despite their period. Statistics show in the U.S. that 1 in 5 girls miss school due to lack of access to period products, while nearly 75% of those playing sports during puberty believe sports positively impacted their future career, yet nearly half of the girls drop out of sports during puberty and 1 in 4 young people don't know why some people get periods and how to manage them. We empower the students and youth through our two main programs. Through our "Kindness Matters" program we donate menstrual hygiene products (pads, tampons, liners, and cups). While our Learning with Dignity program provides a workshop called "Period Awareness with Dignity & Self-Esteem" (P.A.D.S.) to educate girls & menstruators on their menstrual cycle to empower them by making better health decisions for their bodies. To date, we have donated over 100,000 menstrual hygiene products to students & youth-based organizations impacting over 30,000 youth to END PERIOD POVERTY. Important Period Statistics in the U.S. "2 in 5 young people don't feel prepared for their first period". "58% of young girls lose confidence at poverty and starting their period marks girls' lowest point in confidence during their teenage years". "Nearly 3 out of 4 young women believe that boys and men need to be involved in the conversation about periods".
