First, it was Europe. Then came Brussels. And now it’s sport. HEBE is no longer about being European. HEBE is no longer about bridging the gap between the European Bubble and Brussels. HEBE is about sport. Mixed sports. Of course, our roots remain with the European Commission stage that triggered the foundation of HEBE back in 2008. We still have over 50 nationalities represented in our network and more than half work inside or outside of the European institutions. But some of us have left, and some of us have joined. Some of us have become established in Brussels, moving out of the typical Eurobubble headquarters and living sometimes as far as Woluwe St Lambert, Molenbeek St Jean or Laeken. Some of us have become parents or started their own business, or both. After ten years, we no longer consider Brussels as a place of transit. We LIVE in Brussels. This is what HEBE represents today: a home, where we can have fun, enjoy the sports we love and create more projects around mixed sports in the city we have chosen. Our flagship project, the HEBE League, is an independent amateur indoors football league open to men and womenhas 48 teams spread out across 4 competitive divisions. Out of the 700 players, over 100 are women, and it has attracted some of the best footballing talents in Belgian female football. Our League has also encouraged more women to play football and we are continuously aiming at improving the way mixed football is perceived and played. Also with HEBE Cool Runnings, we participated twice in the iconic annual Brussels 20km race, and raised funds for refugees in Belgium. HCR offers weekly fitness and running trainings open to anyone who wishes to get fit, start running or improve their performance. Likewise with HEBE Badminton All Stars, anyone who wants to try their luck at badminton can join the weekly and friendly sessions on Sundays. As we take our story forward into the next ten years, our home is mixed sports in Brussels!
