Interdisciplinary research training is the key to the success of tomorrow's life scientists. The Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS) provides structured doctoral research training in a highly interdisciplinary research environment. The University of Würzburg provides a world class environment of research institutions, which have a long and successful tradition of co-operation across faculties. The GSLS results from a common initiative of the Faculties of Biology, Medicine, Chemistry & Pharmacy, Physics, and Human Sciences. It is this interdisciplinary spirit that propelled Würzburg to among the top four German universities in the Life Sciences (DFG funding atlas). Our doctoral researchers benefit from this proven excellence in research. The GSLS sets standards and assures the quality of research training for the more than 350 German and international doctoral researchers under its auspices. Our Graduate School will prepare you for a successful career in academia or industry by a curriculum custom-tailored to your needs. A prime indicator of the quality of research training in Würzburg is the fact that the GSLS was among a group of just six life sciences-related graduate schools in Germany that gained financial support by the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments in 2006. In 2012 the GSLS succeeded again with its renewal proposal for the next five years.
