A prime indicator of the quality of research training in Würzburg is the fact that the GSLS was among a group of just six life sciences-related graduate schools in Germany that gained financial support by the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments in 2006. In 2012 the GSLS succeeded again with its renewal proposal for the next five years.
