National Mining University is one of the oldest Ukrainian technical universities and the oldest one specialized in higher education for mining engineers. Founded in 1899 as Higher Mining Technical School in the city of Dnipro (previously Ekaterinoslav, later - Dnipropetrovsk, since 2015 - Dnipro), it has led to the establishment of all other universities in the city, including both traditional and specialized. After Ukraine regained its independence in 1991, the university was transformed into geotechnological higher educational institution under the name of State Mining Academy of Ukraine, where the attention is paid to management of resources and environmental protection, synchro-mining and post-mining processes, telecommunication and mechatronics, power engineering and information technologies, economics and finance. Finally, in 2002 the university was renamed to National Mining University, the name it still bears till today. Currently, it is one of the leading Ukrainian universities, consistently ranking in the Top 10 of all the universities in the country and retaining its standards for the quality of education. The educational staff consists of 147 full professors and 347 associate professors, spread over five educational institutes and four departments. National Mining University proposes a wide number of bachelor and master programs for 8294 full-time students. Among the most successful international master programs are "International University of Resources" (jointly with Austrian Montan University and German Technical University "Freiberg Mining Academy") and "Master of Business Administration" (jointly with Franklin University, USA).
