(AAR) was incorporated in Alberta in 1996 and has provided aquatic resource inventory and mitigation planning support to industry, municipalities, and private landowners/developers throughout western Canada for over 20 years. Over the past decade, AAR’s scope has expanded to include a diverse suite of environmental expertise. In 2014, AAR formally opened AAR Environmental Services (AARES), a multidisciplinary environmental consulting division of AAR, based in Calgary. AARES was formed to provide the broad range of environmental disciplines required to better serve our clients. AARES has a strong track-record with all aspects of environmental support for the oil and gas industry. The AARES core team consists of senior professionals with many years of experience across a range of disciplines including: • Surface and ground water management; • Environmental planning; • Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist (QAES) Assessment; • Wetland classification and permitting; • Watercourses and wetland crossing and reclamation design; • Soil survey and conservation; • Wildlife inventory, monitoring and protection; • Vegetation survey; and • Historical resource impact assessment (HRIA) and mitigation/monitoring. This experience enables AARES to provide pre-development planning, biophysical investigations, regulatory approval/permitting applications, construction support, post-construction reclamation investigation(s), and monitoring programs for oil and gas projects. Our construction support services include all aspects of environmental monitoring and oversight during construction, such as: • Environmental Inspection; • Water sourcing and Temporary Diversion Licenses (TDLs)/Water Diversion Licenses (WDLs); • Emergency response/technical advice for spills into watercourses, wetlands and soils/terrain, including wildlife monitoring; and • Reclamation monitoring on watercourse banks and steep slopes, often working with First Nations contractors.
