Villa Comunitaria

www.villacomunitaria.org

Villa Comunitaria started in 2005 as South Park Information and Resource Center in response to the need of the local diverse population that existed at that time. Over the years our organization evolved to provide programs designed by its' participants. Many of the former participants and volunteers are now active leaders, inside and outside our organization. The culmination of this work is due to a cadre of Community Promotoras that have put their work into action. The leadership development work in the Latinx population is a job that started in 2013 and the secret of this success is the people that serve the community are part of the same community. Villa Comunitaria empowers families in innovative ways that are culturally relevant. We create a welcoming environment, presentations are made in Spanish, children are welcome and there is childcare, and food provided. Programs are key to helping Latinx immigrants navigate the complexities of the United States immigration, housing, health, education, and legal system so they can thrive and prosper.
