Fortivin is the wine connoisseur and trader for the North Macedonia wine and wine experiences in the Netherlands. What is so intriguing about North Macedonia wine? North Macedonia remains one of the last undiscovered wine countries in Europe: a natural paradise of vineyards, mountains, lakes and rivers, where life moves at a different rhythm, amidst the vast grandeur of rich historical ruins and idyllic villages that have remained virtually unchanged for centuries. The beauty of northern Macedonia is that the wine region is home to so many distinctive wines made from a range of indigenous grape varieties. Equally surprising is that, despite a wine history dating back more than 4,000 years, most of the quality wines produced in these countries today are little known to the rest of the world. Although small and enclosed, northern Macedonia builds on its complex past to make excellent wines from varieties such as the red Vranec and Stanušina, and the white Žilavka, Temjanika and Smederevka. Some legends say that these varieties were nearby when Alexander the Great supplied his soldiers with grapes grown in what is now the Tikveš district and when the Romans also traded wines here.
