The idea of Madison United Rugby started in the fall of 2007, when rugby coaches and administrators – often the same people – started talking about a way to unite all of the Madison area rugby clubs around our common interests. They thought a new “umbrella” organization could provide organizational efficiency and help build our sport. From these early conversations a Board of Directors was formed and Madison United Rugby Inc. was incorporated in April 2008. Later that year Madison United Rugby was granted 501(c)3 tax-exempt status by the IRS. We are governed by a nine member Board of Directors. Madison United Rugby shall support and develop amateur athletes for national and international amateur competition in the sport of rugby. To advance the primary purpose, Madison United Rugby will coordinate and develop rugby related endeavors in support of its member rugby clubs.
