Honor Flight Arizona
www.honorflightaz.orgWe are the northern/central Arizona chapter of Honor Flight Network, the 28th state to set up a hub. As a part of the national Honor Flight Network, our goal is to fly as many WWII and Korean veterans as possible from Arizona to Washington, D.C. at no cost to the veteran. Since its inception, Honor Flight Arizona has flown more than 1,400 WWII Veterans, 1,100 guardians, and manages a volunteer base of nearly 90 active volunteers. Honor Flight Arizona was started in 2008 after our Hub Coordinator, Susan Howe took her father, a B-24 nose gunner, on an Honor Flight from Ohio. She was very touched by the experience and recognized the need for Honor Flight to come to Arizona. By the end of 2008, Susan had completed the required paperwork, formed the first Honor Flight AZ board and fund raising began. Twelve veterans flew on the first trip in November, 2009, and was the first Honor Flight flown from west of the Mississippi. While we celebrate our accomplishments, we already have a waiting list of more than 300 Korean veterans. The Honor Flight Arizona mission continues!
