A.S.J. is a young adult driven initiative, developed following the shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. As a church body, we were hurt and burdened by prior similar instances of social injustice towards minorities in the past, and had sought our local churches for an avenue to participate in marches, protests, rallies, or simply a space to discuss the trauma we too experienced by these recurring murders, sadly we were denied that space. Upon this most recent occurrence, we decided that possibly, the responsibility was ours to create this space for like-minded Christian youth, who were burdened by social injustices within our communities seeking ways to get involved. On that very evening we created what was then “SDA’s for Social Justice” which was later changed to “Adventists for Social Justice”. Our Mission: “The mission of Adventists for Social Justice is to reflect the character of Christ by seeking justice and defending the oppressed in our communities.” Our Core Focus: Education* Economic Empowerment* Community Involvement* Evangelism* Our Values: C.R.I.E.S.
