My Story Of How Jamaica Virtual Life Got Started I am Maureen Wright-Evans Founder of Jamaica Virtual Life. February 2020 was a month I will never forget. The dreaded coronavirus we were all hearing about had finally reached the United States our major travel partner. All around the world, schools and colleges cancelled their Spring Break trip abroad. I remember dreading the thought of answering the phone or checking the emails as there were cancellations one after the other. For over 15 years, our organization has worked with top high schools and universities to offer educational travel to Jamaica. Our travelers are students on study Abroad, volunteers and gap year, travelers. While we have experienced tough times, I had never seen anything like this pandemic before. I felt hopeless watching my business die each day, but out of this crisis came new opportunities with the launch of Jamaica Life Virtual Experience. Today, I feel excited and energised. Now learning about Jamaica and giving back to communities is not limited by geography or location. With the power of the internet, people who cannot travel can still make a global impact and grow personally and professionally in the process.
