The Rottnest Channel Swim Association (RCSA) was first incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1987 on the first day of November 1995. One of its objectives is to conduct the annual Rottnest Channel Swim. The Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km swim from Cottesloe Beach to Thomson Bay, Rottnest Island in Western Australia held in February each year. Participants can compete in teams of two or four, or for the extremely dedicated, tackle the crossing solo. The event has grown in popularity to become the world’s largest open water swimming event and is a much-loved West Australian icon, capturing the imagination of the public and ocean swimmers alike. Other open water swims are longer, but travel from bay to bay - this event is unique in that it travels from one location to another across an open ocean! The RCSA and Rottnest Channel Swim is managed by an Executive Officer (Event Manager) and a volunteer Committee. In 2020, the RCSA celebrated 30 years of more than 50,000 successful crossings!
