The Way Home Adoption is an agency for youth who are lingering in foster care and at risk of being emancipated with no stable or safe environment. Our mission is to provide these children with permanent homes and relationships by recruiting and supporting adoptive families. Our vision is to find loving families for every child waiting in foster care, regardless of age. There is no other agency in Texas solely focused on decreasing the number of older children lingering in foster care. The Way Home Adoption's founders studied other programs and used statistically-based evidence to create a model specific for these youth. By finding adoptive homes for these children, The Way Home Adoption 1) decreases both the number of children lingering in foster care, who by definition are living lives of instability and impermanence, and 2) decreases the number of children having to care for themselves at age 18, whom statistics show will fare very poorly compared to same age peers. The Way Home Adoption uses a nontraditional, child-focused, model that has been shown to be 2-3 times more effective than traditional models for finding forever families for older youth. The difference is The Way Home Adoption identifies children first, and then focuses on the right family for each child. We find a home to fit a child, rather than finding a child to fit a home. We are often referred to as the "cold case unit" of foster youth. We believe it's never too late in their forever.
