In recent years the importance of Alternative Payments has grown significantly, mainly due to the increasing globalization of eCommerce. Although credit cards are popular in North America, they are less popular in Europe and even less so in countries like Russia, China and Brazil, which have become flagships of the global eCommerce expansion. In some of these countries the use of card-based payments is below 30%, which means that online merchants who are genuinely interested in global coverage need to support the payment methods relevant to these countries.
