Community Arts Stabilization Trust
www.cast-sf.orgCommunity Arts Stabilization Trust (CAST) is a nonprofit social enterprise, which focuses on creating affordable, long-term/permanent workspace for the arts in San Francisco and Oakland in order to facilitate equitable urban development. CAST does so by acquiring properties, leasing to sustain below-market rents for those not poised to buy, building the capacity of cultural organizations to lease and own property, and developing complementary initiatives to keep the arts in our communities. CAST has purchased and opened three arts buildings in central San Francisco, attracted exceptional support from the philanthropic, private and public sector, launched a city-wide mapping of cultural spaces through its online tool Culture Compass (culturecompass.org), and been cited as a creative placekeeping model in publications by the World Cities Culture Forum, LISC and Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
