Talisman Theatre
www.talisman-theatre.comTalisman has a vibrant, living mission: to produce English-language premières of contemporary Quebec plays for Montreal's public and students. Each year we seek to make 250 subsidized seats available to disadvantaged youth who would otherwise be unable to benefit from engagement with the contemporary issues dealt with in our productions. Their engagement would entail preparation for the performance with their instructor guided by Talisman's Student Guide that we make available to them, attending the performance, and attending to the post-performance, animated talk-back sessions with the artists and producers. Students are then encouraged to produce their own projects based on what they have seen and heard. We have two unique strengths that allow us to bring Quebec plays to English-speaking theatre-goers: we retain the essence of traditional Quebec theatrical practice as part of our hybrid development process; and we have developed a talented bi-lingual team with its own distinctive artistic approach. We also passionately believe that Montreal's actors, designers, technicians, managers, and crew should be properly paid for their enrichment of our culture, and we work hard, year-round, to raise the funds to make this possible.
