Scope is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to support people with physical, intellectual and multiple disabilities by helping them achieve their goals. We offer a variety of services including Therapy, Day and Lifestyle Services, and Supported Independent Living. We’re passionate about providing high-quality and individualised support, currently helping more than 6,000 individuals and their families across Victoria and employing over 1,800 staff members. Our mission is to enable each person we support to live as an empowered and equal citizen – we see the person, not the disability. Research is a key pillar of what we do at Scope. We are committed to supporting and improving the lives of individuals living with a disability through the translation of evidence into practice and advocacy. In 2014 we formed a partnership with The University of Melbourne, a collaboration that will allow us to help develop further leadership in this area. Scope offers a range of services and education programs that enable organisations to become more inclusive of people with a disability. Scope works with organisations to become more accessible to people with communication difficulties – awarding successful organisations the coveted ‘Communication Access’ symbol and recognition. Scope is a registered service provider under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS will enable new and innovative services and supports that are aligned with the person’s goals. People with a disability will have the support that’s just right for them – to live independently, achieve their goals, and participate in the community. Our successful participation in the Barwon trial site over the last two years gives us momentum and learnings to continue the transition to full implementation.
