TEDxRWTHAachen is organised by AiX Talks e.V., which is a student initiative and a non-profit association that was founded in 2015 and whose primary goal is to organise an annual TED-style conference at RWTH Aachen University. TED is a non-profit organisation that has been organising an annual innovation conference for over 20 years. Founded in California as an exclusive, four-day exchange forum for leaders in the fields of technology, entertainment and design, TED has grown into a global organisation with a variety of initiatives and conferences. The scope of the conferences has expanded over the years to cover almost every topic - from science to business to global issues to arts and culture - in over 100 languages. In line with the guiding principle "ideas worth spreading", the TEDx programme supports the independent organisation of a TED-like event in a local setting worldwide. At a TEDx event, the presentation of TED Talk videos combines with live speakers to create a unique experience of inspiring thought-provoking ideas and stimulating discussion. TEDx events are organised under licence from TED independently of a local group.
