Her unique business model incorporates sourcing grapes from a vineyard just 1.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The cool coastal climate is perfect for growing grapes—cool, foggy mornings, warm afternoons, and cool evening breezes. The soil is special too—a seafront mixture of limestone, sandstone, marine shale, and fossilized shells. When they’re ready, the grapes are hand-harvested at 3 a.m. and transported via refrigerated trucks to Napa Valley where they are gently pressed, fermented, and aged in French oak barrels at a custom facility. The resulting wines are superb and elegant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Oceano Wines is a boutique winery created and run by Rachel Martin, a hands-on entrepreneur.
