Finnish Intelligent Module Apartments (FIMAtec) Oy is a Finnish company specializing in machine and device design. It is spearheading the development of 3D printing method for buildings and building elements. FIMAtec currently operates in Imatra, Finland and targets both local and international markets. FIMAtec has developed the RoboCatt 3D printing unit, which can be applied for construction purposes in concrete element factories or on construction sites. It is especially suitable for printing outer wall elements (i.e. sandwich elements), as the whole element can be printed in vertical position. Insulation and reinforcements are installed at the same time, which enables significant savings in the manufacturing costs of concrete elements. FIMAtec’s production solution modernizes the conservative building industry. RoboCatt changes construction from manual labour into industrial production, in which 3D printing and automation are utilized widely.
