Operations began in 1991 under previous company name Air West (SCAA AOC#04) with two Fokker F27 passenger planes, and multiple Antonov 12/ 24/ 26/ 28/32 aircrafts, and Yakovlev YAK 42 and 40. Air West also owned and operated 5 Ilyushin Il-76 cargo planes.Until 2008, Air West has worked with the United Nations, Red Cross, UNICEF, WFP, African Union, and in support of US troops From Frankfurt, Germnay with logistics into Afghanistan and Iraq and South Sudan and West Africa. Air West was transformed into Sun Air Aviation in 2008 with commencement of scheduled passenger flights to all Sudan's national airports, and international destinations in the Middle East region and Africa. Sun Air Aviation owned and operated B737-200s for it's scheduled operations and used a variety of other Boeing aircrafts for it's charter and religious Hajj and Umrah operations, some of these aircrafts are Boeing 737-200, 737-300, 737-400, 737-800, 747, 757, 767, Airbus 310, and Airbus 320. Sun Air Aviation is resuming scheduled and cargo operations with wide body aircrafts (Airbus 330-200) for long haul destinations, and fuel efficient Embraer 190 aircrafts for short haul destinations. Sun Air Aviation is proud to be the first privately held airline company in Sudan to reach international destinations into African and Gulf Countries, and expanding into further destinations in Europe and China.
