dekoder translates Russian independent media into German and adds scientifically based contextualisation. It's aim is to bring competence into the European discourse on Russia and make independent Russian voices heard in the West. dekoder is a new type of hybrid media featuring two interconnected types of content: high quality translations and explanatory pieces on specific terms and subjects by European researchers on Russia and the European East. dekoder has won the prestigious Grimme Online Award in June 2016 and a registered non-profit-organisation accredited as a German gGmbH. dekoder is – until now – funded mainly by its founder Martin Krohs (and, for the next tranche, his own Konvert Stiftung). As these funds are extremely limited, dekoder is looking for partners (foundations and private donors, non-partisanship required) for funding and development.
