In 2018, the “quit rate” – percentage of employees who voluntarily left a job – hit a level not seen since 2001 as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In a recent Conference Board survey, 800 leading CEOs ranked “attracting and retaining top talent” as their #1 concern in 2019, noting “they are leaving in droves.” While multiple factors affect employee engagement, Gallup organizational research indicates that at least 70% of the variance in team engagement is explained by the quality of the manager or team leader.
