The Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator is an EU-funded project that improves access to finance for green enterprises. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) form the backbone of Uganda’s economy. They provide jobs and economic opportunities, and create products and services that respond to local market demand. Green SMEs integrate environmental sustainability into their production processes and business models, and contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Bringing green products, services and business models to scale requires an ecosystem that supports businesses throughout their growth. The Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator collaborates with local commercial banks to facilitate access to tailored loans for green SMEs. Through an integrated package of enterprise capacity building, facilitation of tailored and accessible loans, and engagement with the green enterprise ecosystem in Uganda, UGEFA: - prepares green enterprises with growth potential to bring their solutions to scale - facilitate access to loans tailored to green business growth - builds awareness of green entrepreneurship and financing - improves transparency and assessment of the environmental and social impacts of SMEs These objectives leverage the potential of SMEs to create jobs and drive Uganda’s transition to a green and inclusive economy.
