We promote and disseminate rigorous, evidence based research and viewpoints, bringing together practitioners, academics, researchers and Fellows. The Institute provides professional leadership for probation workers and all those who deliver services that protect the public and rehabilitate offenders. It acts to link probation professionals across the public, voluntary, community and private sectors. The Probation Institute: - delivers professional development conferences and online events; - produces the free Probation Quarterly publication; - engages with organisations promoting diversity, the voices of service users, victims and issues affecting justice; - provides Position Papers on important issues in probation and rehabilitation; - developed a Code of Ethics stating the core values and ethical principles that every member of the Probation Institute accepts as part of their membership and which underpin the profession. - provides access to the Sir Graham Smith Research Awards. - has delivered extensive research on working with ex-armed services personnel under supervision.
