Environmental Protection Fund was established pursuant to the Act on the Environmental Protection Fund and the Environmental Protection Act from 2002. The purpose of establishing Environmental Protection Fund was to ensure additional funds for financing programs, projects and similar activities in the area of: - Preservation, sustainable utilization, protection and improvement of environment; - Energy efficiency and utilization of renewable sources of energy; Environmental Protection Fund id extrabudgetary fund, legal entity with public authorizations (based on the new Act on the Fund). Founder’s rights and obligations on behlaf of the Republic of Srpska are exercised by the Government of the Republic of Srpska. Acticvities of the Fund are public and transparent; The Fund carries out its activities relating to the protection of environment and energy efficiency in cooperation with the Ministry of Town Planning, Civil Works and Environment and the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Development, as well as other relevant ministries. Adoption of the new Act on Energy Efficiency nad the Environment Protection Fund is expected in the first half of 2011, which should “fully capacitate” activities of the Fund under the new significantly changed circumstances.
