One of the leading commercial ports in the north of Scotland situated at the mouth of the River Ness. It is a natural and sheltered deep water port that has six berths arranged over four quays. In addition, there is substantial quayside laydown space as well as covered storage. The Port is the focal point for the import and export of an extensive range of dry bulk cargoes including, logs, timber, Sterling Board as well as road salt and wood chips. Other commodities handled include grains, animal feeds and one off project cargoes such as transformers, containers and other machinery. The Port has a dedicated heavy lift pad that is capable of handling heavier equipment. Over the last few years, the Port has built up an extensive track record in the renewable energy market handling over 300 complete wind turbines for onward delivery to several wind farms in the north and north-east of Scotland. There are also regular shipments of wood pellets to various locations in the UK.
