De Petteflet offers lessons in Dutch language and culture as a supplement to local American education. Classes meet in North Denver, Colorado, on Wednesday afternoons for 2.5 hours. In addition we organize cultural days such as a traditional Sinterklaas celebration and a king’s day flea market (vrijmarkt), as well as an annual camping trip in August. By attending the Dutch classes, children will be prevented from falling behind in the Dutch language when returning to The Netherlands or Belgium or if they later decide to continue higher education in these countries. De Petteflet verzorgt basisonderwijs in de Nederlandse taal en cultuur voor kinderen van 4 tot en met 14 jaar. De lessen vinden plaats in een gezellige en ontspannen sfeer waar kinderen zich thuis voelen en zich met vertrouwen leren uit te drukken in de Nederlandse taal. Op school is een uitgebreide bibliotheek aanwezig. Naast de gewone lessen worden er speciale themadagen georganiseerd zoals Sinterklaas, koninginnedag en cultuurmiddagen.
